Early Detection of Hearing Loss in Children: A Crucial Step

Hearing loss in children can adversely affect their development and communication skills and overall quality of life. If your child is showing any signs of hearing difficulties it is important to detect that at the initial stage itself. Early detection is the key to minimise the potential consequences. The parents and the caregivers should be vigilant in identifying any signs of hearing difficulties in their children. Here are some common signs that are seen in children if they are facing any kind of hearing disabilities.

Delayed Language Development

If your child is not babbling, cooing, or making sounds by 10 months or not even saying any simple words by 12 months, it could be a sign of hearing loss.

Lack of response to sounds

Do clapping, bell ringing, or calling their own name, and if your child does not respond to these noises and seems unaware, that means they have some sort of hearing loss.

Excessive shouting or screaming

Children with hearing loss tend to shout or scream in a high volume to hear themselves better, with the misconception that they are producing low sound.

Frequent ear infections

If your child finds it difficult to follow your instructions or respond to your conversations accurately, then it may be because of this concern.

Social withdrawal

Does your child seem isolated from their friends or peers? Social interactions can be challenging for them because they may struggle to hear and understand others.

If you find any of the above-mentioned signs or any others related to this in your child, it is mandatory to bring them to an ENT appointment. Because early detection and medications are better to cure the issues properly and seamlessly. And this treatment can make a significant difference in a child’s development and future.
